St Helen’s has been a site for Christian worship since at least the 11th century. It is estimated that the existing building was originally built in 1240, with the first recorded vicar being appointed in 1222. Situated at the junction of Church Lane and Barkestone Lane. The churchyard contains many headstones relating to village families, dating from the 17th century. A corner of the churchyard, originally the site of the village schoolhouse, is used for the burial of cremated remains and a remembrance garden.
